What is this?

At the end of summer, we'll head out on a hike around Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe. In 10 days, we'll cover ~170km and cross 3 countries – France, Switzerland, Italy. During the hike, we'll enjoy the most breathtaking and beautiful Alpine mountains with snowy peaks in the background. This will be a relatively tough hike, as we'll be covering about 20km a day on average, some days more, some less, but generally expect this distance over hilly terrain, with big ascents and descents. It's not easy, but it's not impossible either. No mountaineering gear or skills are needed for this hike, just the desire to trek along the Alpine trails with a view of Europe's highest peak, Mont Blanc.

5 reasons to join:

  1. 3 countries in one hike - Italy, Switzerland, France
  2. The highest and most beautiful Alpine peaks
  3. Stunning natural views
  4. Mont Blanc in all its glory
  5. Cool and motivating group members

What is the approximate plan?

  • 1. diena

Gather at Riga airport, get to know the awesome group mates and fly out to the Alps, where we take local transport to the hike starting point. Card games and chats with newly met group mates, a local drink or two until we crash in anticipation of the hike.

  • 2. diena

First day of hiking, where we start trekking up and down, aka our awesome hike begins. First beautiful views and the first bit of frustration sneaks in, but it quickly disappears – the higher we climb, the more impressive the views.

  • 3. - 10. diena

Rise with the first morning roosters to cover as much distance as possible during the day and end the evening with sunsets over the Alpine peaks and group chatter about the Adventures, pouring your heart out to each other in great company with some French or Italian wine.

  • 11. diena

Last day of the hike, where we finish this beautiful trek and celebrate the end of the hike with our group mates, who have already become good friends.

  • 12. diena

We head to the airport and return to our beloved homes and daily lives with memories of the beautiful Alps and the snowy peak of Mont Blanc.

How does the hike go down?

This isn't a boot camp and fitness levels can vary, so you can choose how to spend and enjoy this hike. You'll have access to the route in digital format (GPX file), which you can load onto your phone and you'll receive it at the start of the hike. Following it or deviating from it is up to you. If one day you want to go solo and have some me-time - go ahead, enjoy the day alone. If you don't like going solo and want to chat with someone, there will always be a group member or members with whom you can enjoy that particular day in a small group and at your comfortable pace. You'll appreciate not having to walk in one big group and trying to keep up with faster walkers or waiting for slower ones. This is your hike, so sticking to or not sticking to the standard plan is up to you - both the route and accommodations are recommended but not mandatory. Just keep in mind that the group leader will stick with the part of the group that's following the initially planned standard plan. There have been cases where a participant decides to go their own way from day one and we only meet them at the end of the hike. If you decide to do that too, you can do so without worries - just make sure you're there for the departure time.

But what about the daily schedule? We don't have a schedule. Leave the schedule at home, where you have to go to work and sports camps, where everyone has a daily routine. What you do during the day, how fast you do it, or how you enjoy the hike is up to you - ENJOY THIS ADVENTURE.

Where will we sleep?

On the hike, we'll crash at a million-star hotel called a tent – how comfy, clean, or fragrant it is depends entirely on you. After a day full of emotions and exhaustion, you'll have the sweetest sleep and the most colorful dreams. The morning and evening shower ritual will be done in a nearby stream, lake, or brook, and the water will be icy cold, but your hiking buddies will encourage you, and if you can't manage it yourself, they'll definitely drag you in by force 😉 Keep in mind that there might not always be running or warm water nearby, so be prepared that your shower might be a wet wipe or a water bottle.

We'll buddy up in tents, two per tent, because it's more fun, warmer, and sharing the load is way nicer. We'll try to set up our tent accommodations in the most beautiful spots possible, so every evening we won't want to crawl into the tents but sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view.

What will we eat?

We will cook our own food, at least most mornings and evenings we'll try to do that, but when we're feeling lazy and when it's possible, we'll use the dining options offered by camp eateries. The food there is expensive and nothing extraordinary, but it's an option. In France, we'll quench our thirst with French wines, satisfy our hunger with Swiss cheese in Switzerland, and enjoy delicious Italian pizzas in Italy.

During the day we'll make sandwiches and munch on chips 🙂 We'll filter drinking water from mountain streams and small lakes.

Some of the accommodations or along the way have a small shop (and even a diner) where you can top up your food supplies for the journey ahead. Of course, prices in these places are higher than in "civilization," but the option is there.

What else should I know?

You can definitely go on the adventure alone, because we won't ask you for any mysterious extra charges for a single room just because we can't find you a roommate or some other weird excuse. On the contrary, many people travel alone, but we'll arrange a cool roommate for you (of the same gender) and in that case, you'll have the chance to make new friends 😉

The adventure isn't extremely difficult, but it's not a stroll through Old Riga either. We won't be climbing cliffs or walking 100km a day, but since we'll be constantly moving "forward," you should be able to carry your travel bag without whining and dissatisfaction.

If you feel like whining and being grumpy about little things, then this isn't the right hike for you, because it ruins both the group's microclimate and the mood of your fellow travelers. That's why we want to see positive adventurers on our hikes and Adventures. The group leader won't "babysit" the picky people but will simply ignore them to spend time with those who want to enjoy the hike. This is a group hike, after all, and everyone should solve their problems individually, not publicly, because we want our group to become a very friendly company during the hike, and those who want to "pick fights" wouldn't be in the right place. Similarly, if you're someone who can't go to sleep until someone wishes you "Goodnight" or the hiking day isn't successful unless someone asks "How was it" a million times - there won't be any of that here, so don't expect it. We and the group leader won't do that. We expect mature participants on the hike, not grown-up children who need attention or have an attention deficit.

This Adventure is not for comfort lovers and those who can't step out of their comfort zone. We warn you, so you don't end up telling all sorts of nonsense publicly. Just like we sit in the evenings with a stronger drink, but that doesn't mean you have to do it too - just understand us and don't call us unpleasant names afterwards. These aren't holidays to sleep in, these are holidays to have fun and a great time.

We also recommend checking out the frequently asked questions.

Frequently asked questions:

  • 1. What are the additional costs and how much are they?

We can't give you the exact additional costs, and these are VERY approximate. In most cases, they'll depend quite a bit on you and your preferences, but our goal is to "travel on the cheap," and roughly they are as follows:

  • 2. How big of a bag/luggage can I take with me?

On the hike, we'll only take the essentials, and the flight baggage limit is the small carry-on size, but the rest of the stuff will be transported from Latvia by van. The space in the van for luggage is also limited, allowing each person no more than 10kg. Together with the flight carry-on, it's plenty to take everything needed for such a hike. If you can't fit within this luggage limit, then maybe the Hike isn't meant for you. The van with the gear will leave for the Adventure starting point 1-2 days before the flight, so we'll pick up the gear from you (Riga) at a pre-arranged place and time (one time and place for everyone) a few days before the trip and return it 1-2 days after.

  • 3. Is hiking meant for me?

The hike is quite tough and you could also say it's complex, so before signing up, we recommend everyone to assess their physical ability to complete it. Mountains are mountains with ups and downs, weather is very unpredictable and the sun can suddenly be replaced by rain or vice versa - bad weather can be replaced by scorching sun, making you want to strip off all your clothes. You can't trust these weather conditions based on forecasts on TV screens, phones, or "knowledgeable and experienced" friends, so you have to be ready for anything. During the hike, you'll think CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY why am I doing this, but once you return to civilization, you'll realize it's the coolest thing you've done, you've done it and next time you want something even crazier 🙂

  • 4. What do I need to bring?

We'll be sleeping in tents, so you'll definitely need to bring a tent and a weather-appropriate sleeping bag, as well as a mat. Since no one will carry your stuff for you and you'll have to carry everything yourself, there's an option to share a tent with someone else. This way, you'll have a shorter list of things to carry and it'll be more fun. If you don't have a "buddy," you'll have the chance to find one in the chat group before the trip. You'll also definitely need a backpack, comfortable hiking shoes, and warm, moisture-resistant clothing, but we'll provide a more detailed list of items as the Adventure approaches.

  • 5. What documents are needed?

You will need passport or ID card.

  • 6. What visas are needed?

Italy: For Latvian citizens no visa or permit required.
Switzerland: For Latvian citizens no visa or permit required.
France: For Latvian citizens no visa or permit required.

  • 7. Can I go alone?

You can totally go on the adventure solo, because we won't charge you any weird extra fees for a single room just because we can't find you a roommate or some other strange excuse. On the contrary, many people go alone, and in that case, you'll have the chance to meet new friends or maybe even find your other half 😉

  • 8. Can I fly from an airport other than Riga?

Yes, it's possible to fly from another airport if the flight price is the same or by covering the difference. The main thing is to arrive and depart at a similar time to our flight or just wait for us. You definitely need to contact us about this in advance.

  • 9. How to sign up for an Adventure?

You can sign up for the trip on our website by clicking the "SIGN UP" button and filling out the application form located under the Adventure description. Since there are many interested, but not all are actual travelers, an advance payment is required to confirm participation in the Adventure. The amount of the advance payment depends on the specific Adventure. By paying this advance, your spot in the Adventure is confirmed. If you cancel your participation in the Adventure, the advance payment is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to confirm participation in another trip.

  • 10. How long can I think about it if I want to sign up?

You can think about it as long as there are spots available. After that, you can keep thinking, but there won't be any spots left on the trip.

  • 11. How does the contract signing happen?

There's no physical contract signing. When signing up for an Adventure, after filling out the application form and before making the payment, you can check out the Adventure contract and save it if needed. Paying the advance invoice confirms this particular Adventure contract.

  • 12. Is it possible to sign the contract in person?

No, it's not possible, because we VERY often find ourselves on adventures outside of Latvia (check the Adventure list on our website). Occasionally, between Adventures, you can catch us in Cēsis.

  • 13. When will I receive a more detailed plan?

A more detailed plan than what's on the website isn't offered to participants, so get ready for surprises, because that's way cooler 😉

  • 14. Will there be a group meeting beforehand?

In our view, group meetings are seriously outdated because everything can be discussed electronically, and there's no need to waste precious time attending them. We came to this conclusion because we used to hold them, but they were kind of awkward and not widely attended, so now we pass all the information electronically via email.

  • 15. Is there anything else important?

The trip's vibe and awesomeness largely depend on the travelers themselves, so if you like to stir up trouble or "mess with the minds" of the organizers and other trip participants, then this trip isn't for you. We've had a couple of grumpy ladies before who annoyed everyone, so if you can't control your mood – DON'T COME! The group leader is ALWAYS right (even if they're not), so if you've decided to join, you'll have to listen to them.

Payment terms:

• Deposit payment 50EUR (per person) to reserve your spot upon booking.

• Otrais maksājums 350EUR (per person) must be paid within 7 days after the deposit and no later than the adventure start date.

Since we receive A LOT of applications but not all turn into actual bookings, your spot is only confirmed and reserved after the deposit is paid.

Age restrictions:

• Minimum recommended Participant age 14 years.

• No maximum age limit for participants.

How much does it cost?

If you sign up now, you'll have the chance to join us on this fantastic Adventure with a discount and the participation fee is 695 EUR. Signing up later means the Adventure participation fee will be higher, and you won't be able to negotiate for a cheaper price. The price includes everything described below. The number of spots on the trip is VERY limited, so don't wait until the last minute to sign up 😉
